Alarnath Darshan is a religious pilgrimage associated with Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha, India. It is primarily centered around the deity of Lord Alarnath, who is considered an aspect or form of Lord Jagannath.
It is believed that during this time, Lord Jagannath goes into a state of deep meditation known as “Anasara” after the grand Rath Yatra festival. Devotees visit the Alarnath Temple, located in Brahmagiri near Puri, to seek the darshan (divine glimpse) of Lord Alarnath during his period of seclusion.
The temple of Alarnath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his form as Lord Alarnath. Legend has it that Lord Jagannath, in the guise of Lord Alarnath, provided food and shelter to a devotee named Tota Gopinath, who was disappointed that he couldn’t witness the Anasara of Lord Jagannath in Puri. This incident led to the establishment of the Alarnath Temple, where devotees can have darshan of Lord Jagannath during his period of Anasara.
During the Alarnath Darshan, devotees visit the temple and offer prayers and offerings to Lord Alarnath. It is considered highly auspicious to have the darshan of Lord Alarnath during this time, and pilgrims from various parts of the country come to seek his blessings.
The Alarnath Darshan is an important part of the religious and cultural traditions in Puri, and it adds to the spiritual significance and fervor associated with Lord Jagannath and the Jagannath Temple.
