Netrotsav is a festival celebrated in Puri, Odisha, India, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra. The word “Netra” means eyes, and “Utsav” means festival or celebration, so Netrotsav translates to “Festival of Eyes.”

During Netrotsav, the deities of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra are taken out in a grand procession from the Jagannath Temple in Puri to the Narendra Tank, also known as Chandrabhaga Sea Beach. The deities are placed on beautifully decorated boats called “Chapa” and taken for a ceremonial bath in the sea.

The festival is observed on the auspicious day of Kartik Purnima, which usually falls in the month of November. It is believed that the sea water has healing properties and the ceremonial bath is performed to purify and heal the deities’ eyes.

Netrotsav is a significant event for the devotees of Lord Jagannath and attracts a large number of pilgrims and tourists to Puri. The festival is accompanied by various cultural programs, music, dance performances, and religious rituals, making it a vibrant and joyful celebration in the city.
